“3 years ago I joined CFPTC. I was low on energy, I was in fair shape, and I was on a few different medications for anxiety and asthma. CFPTC has become my second home. I love this gym. We have amazing coaching, amazing members, and a positive environment. I’m now in the best shape I’ve ever been in, my energy is through the roof, and I’m off of all my medications. I’m so very grateful for my decision to join CF, and I’m so very grateful for the coaching at CFPTC. If you’re looking for something to get in shape and have some fun doing it, come check out CFPTC” – Karlye
About 3 months before I started at CrossFit PTC I had very low energy and at one point I would get short of breath climbing stairs or playing with my kids. I wasn’t super healthy either I weighed 183 lbs and had 21% Body Fat. To top it off I had been diagnosed with High Blood Pressure and was put on medication. I felt miserable!
I hired a Semi-Personal Trainer who started me on my fitness journey. I had never so much as set foot in a gym or participated in any type of organized fitness program before that…ever. Through the trainer I had become more active and lost a significant amount of weight but I wanted to get stronger. I began searching for a fitness program that would fit my goals. A coworker would often share how CrossFit had helped him become fitter and stronger than he had ever been so naturally I began researching local boxes. I hesitated to take that first step into the gym. It was really a lack of confidence. I took the leap and with the help of our CrossFit PTC community who welcomed people of all fitness levels and encouraged you to keep getting better I began the journey toward my goals. Ric instantly made me feel welcome and confident during my assessment and all the coaches do a really great job integrating you in the community and scaling movements to your abilities.
I have now been a member of CrossFit PTC for 2 years. I am the fittest I have ever been and am highly motivated to sustain my fitness and nutrition. My current weight is 170lbs and I now have 10.6% body fat. I have been off BP meds for 18 months! It is great to be surrounded by likeminded people and be with them every day, I really enjoy our group! I can perform movements today that seemed impossible just 12 months ago; Pistols, HSPU, BMU’s and RMU’s and am currently working towards Handstand Walking…
Recently, I was spending time with my 5 year old grandson and we were talking about exercising and being healthy. He asked me if I ever exercised. When I told him that I go to the gym and run, do pushups, sit ups etc., he said “Nana, you can still do all those things?” I was so happy to be able to tell him that I do.
Prior to January 2016, I had exercised sporadically, at best, for many years. My focus was always on raising my children and working (sometimes two jobs), which left little time for me. My weight had fluctuated up and down 15-20 pounds for years and attempts to get a handle on my poor eating habits seemed futile. I was stressed and tired.
Funny thing happens when your 3rd and youngest child leaves for college. You suddenly have an abundance of time to focus inward. In the summer of 2015, after finishing my second round of physical therapy for an arthritic and damaged shoulder, I decided it was time to do something to improve my health and strength. Thankfully, my dear friends and employers announced to me in December that they had signed us up for Boot Camp at CrossFit PTC.
Intimidated is an understatement, I was so scared to take that first step! I remember feeling so out of shape and sore during the first week of camp. My shoulder injury made me nervous but the coaches were always helpful with alternative movements. I wondered if I would be able to complete some of the workouts, but the coaches were so encouraging as were all of the other campers. At some point, you begin to realize you’re all there for the same purpose and the intimidation is gone. I began to look forward to the 6 am workouts. After completing two 6-week boot camps, I officially joined the CrossFit PTC family.
Fast forward 2 years, I am in better shape than I have been in since my early thirties. I have made countless friends with whom I’ve shared many laughs and much sweat and I’ve enjoyed getting to know all of the amazing coaches! There are many milestones I would still like to reach but I know I’ve come so far. My shoulder is much stronger than it was when I started and my overall strength and endurance have improved. My promise to myself is to continue to strive for better health and strength and I can’t think of better people or a better place to do that than with CrossFit PTC.
Hello, my name is Karen Sagon and I am addicted to Shred at CrossFit PTC, lol. The statement is true and here is my story. I have always been active and playing sports is part of who I am. At the age of 50, I had a major 3 hour rotator cuff surgery to repair three severed and retracted tendons. After my surgery, it was my commitment to get in good physical shape. I did not want to be that 50 year old person who had a hard time getting up, complained about aching knees, and spent the last part of life inactive and unhappy. After a strong rehabilitation program and stem cell therapy at Ageless Wellness Center, my journey with CrossFit PTC began with their Fit 4 Life program. I was able to talk a couple of friends into starting the “healthy journey” with me. It was slow progress in the beginning but I wouldn’t change it for anything. After the first bootcamp, we joined up for the another round because we certainly did not want to lose the progress we had gained. After the 2nd bootcamp, I joined the CrossFit PTC Shred class, which is where I go 3-4 days a week now. It’s the perfect class for me because of my surgery I am limited to full body pulls and ring dips. The instructors are so wonderful to find alternative exercises for those who need it. Joining CrossFit PTC has been one of my most important and life changing decisions. I have not only gained muscles and lost weight, but I have gained life long friends I now feel like are family…Linda Wright, Tina Bullard, and instructors Jen Nicosia and Andrea Bauer and so many more I should add to the list. My advice to those who are thinking about joining: Allow yourself to be a beginner, no one starts at the top and time will fly. I cannot believe it’s been 2 years for me. I am 40lbs lighter, so much stronger, and I continue every day to improve. Thank you CrossFit PTC family. I can’t wait to see what the future holds!
