our story
“Good Coaching is absolutely essential. We have an on-going CrossFit PTC Instructor Training Program, and we believe that coaches need to continue to learn.”
Ric Thompson is a Certified CrossFit Level 3 Trainer (CF-L3), Certified Pose Running Trainer and has been certified in CrossFit Running, Mobility, Olympic Lifting, Coaches Prep Course and CrossFit Kids. A graduate of the US Naval Academy, Ric has been in the Marines for over 25 years serving in both Active and Reserve forces. Ric was exposed to CrossFit by some friends in the Marine Corps and has never looked back. He and his wife Jen started CrossFit PTC with their 5 kids in March of 2008 initially training in their garage.
“This program challenges and changes your definition of fitness. I thought I was fit, from all the things that I did in and out of the Marines, but I wasn’t CrossFit. CrossFit has changed my life”.

I heard about CrossFit from a former trainer who became a box owner in Oregon. She said, “If there is a CrossFit in Peachtree City then you have got to try it.” I hesitated at first, thinking that all the hours I was putting in at my local gym were good enough. When I got tired of being “stuck” in the same workouts and not seeing any changes, I decided to try it. After a few short months, I was hooked. It actually worked! I could see the changes physically and feel my energy level rising. My periodic blood work was improving, verifying the transformations that I had observed. Not only that, I cut my workout time in half. As a busy Mom of 2, that was huge. Loving the CrossFit PTC gym and community, I decided to take it to the next level and become a coach. I have been here 10 years now and I wouldn’t change a thing. I love helping people transform their health and wellness for the better.

In 2010, Jeff hit the proverbial “mid-life” crisis at age 40.
“I was overweight, addicted to soft drinks, and eating anything and everything. My triglycerides along with blood sugar and blood pressure were borderline high. To offset this lifestyle, I was paying for a membership at the local 24-hour fitness center, where I was seen once a month on the elliptical or bench press. With heart disease and diabetes in my family, I was headed toward trouble in a hurry. That’s when a sales associate of mine recommended CrossFit. I immediately loved the workouts, coaching, friendships, and most of all the results of this fitness lifestyle. In fact, I lost 25 lbs in the first three months and haven’t looked back since. CrossFit has really changed my life and I hope to do this till my last days.”
After being a CrossFit member for three years, Jeff decided to move down the pathway of coaching to inspire others to make real changes in their life. His favorite lifts are clean and jerk, press, and back squat; favorite exercise is double-unders. His least favorite movement is anything that involves a front squat or thruster!

“CrossFit has taken me on an incredible 12 year journey to fitness. It all started when I asked Ric to show me CrossFit and he told me to do “little Cindy” (3,4,5 ring rows, push ups) in our garage. My unfit body really didn’t like the workouts, but I loved learning all the new skills! The last few years have been “work”, training my own body , training others, and learning how to feed my family and live a healthy lifestyle. I am a ‘work in progress’ and easily identify with all the non-athletic, not super coordinated folks who don’t have an extensive gym background. I believe CrossFit works… And that belief has fueled an enthusiasm which has exploded into passion. I enjoy the opportunity to help others through their journey of obtaining a happier, healthier, lifestyle. My favorite part of coaching is helping people obtain small victories on the path to their overall goals. I love the community and family we have built at CrossFit PTC. Going to the gym and working with people who sweat, laugh, and progress makes everyday worthwhile!”
Sarah Gray
At the age of 14, I was on the heavy side and not doing much physical activity. My dad told me I should join CrossFit with him.
I started and immediately fell in love with it and how it made me feel. I felt better physically and mentally and saw very quickly the things I was doing daily that were easier because of the functional movements I had started doing at the gym. A few years later when thinking about career options, I decided I wanted to help other people feel the same way I felt after starting to add physical activity into my day. I attended the University of Georgia and received a bachelor’s degree in Exercise in Sports Science. After working in other commercial gyms, I realized CrossFit was ultimately the place I wanted to be and found myself at CrossFit PTC. I love getting to coach our clients every day and help them better themselves and work towards their goals. I am able to help them fall in love with the same feeling of strength and empowerment that I felt when I first started CrossFit. I have also discovered a passion for helping older people who are noticing a decrease in strength, balance, and coordination. I started the Legends class here at CFPTC to be able to provide that service to our community as well.
