My CrossFit Journey:
Being retired for 10+ years from the Marine Corps I had let fitness take a back seat, not because of lack of desire, but from the aches and pains associated with a variety of issues. My knees hurt and my hips were starting to get some arthritis so I had stopped running. My workouts consisted of lifting some weights and brisk walking. My weight had increased to an unacceptable level even with the workouts so something had to change. Enter CrossFit PTC and my friend and colleague Ric Thompson. Ric and I have known each other for about 20 years and I knew he owned a CrossFit gym, but there was no way for me to go there since I lived several hundred miles away.
However, Ric talked to me about a CrossFit remote training program that he administers online. I was interested, but I didn’t think it would be “my thing”. I had to do something about the weight and my appearance because I had a wedding for my daughter that I had to fit into my uniform again. No small task. I started slow this past November with Ric’s guidance and built up the workouts.
All I can say is “Wow”. I’m doing things I never thought I would do again and my knee and hip pain is much, much less. Ric gave me some of the best advice I have ever gotten regarding working out. “Spend some time at the bottom of a squat”. I did that and it has helped my flexibility and range of motion tremendously and is the biggest factor in my knee and hip pain being diminished.
I receive workouts thru an app on my phone daily. I input my workout results in the same app and everything is tracked for Ric and myself to view. He adjusts my workouts accordingly so as not to go too easy or to hard at any one time. The remote coaching is a God-send for me. It challenges you with workouts that are short, varied and never boring. You know you are not alone in the journey. If you miss your workout the app will email and let you know you’ve missed. It makes you accountable. Couple that with the personal attention from your coach and nutrition information and guidance if you desire it is a no-brainer for someone like me.
I saved the best for last. That unacceptable weight is now well under control after losing 25lbs. CrossFit PTC remote coaching is a big part of that loss. I am now well below my retirement weight and my body is being sculpted and my strength and endurance are going way up. I owe all that to CrossFit PTC remote training and coach Ric Thompson.
