4 Ways to Stay Consistent This Holiday Season

“Every action you take is a vote for the type of person you wish to become. No single instance will transform your beliefs, but as the votes build up, so does the evidence of your new identity.”
– James Clear, Author of Atomic Habits

The holiday season is busy. It’s tempting to put off starting a fitness routine until January, but the truth is, the holidays only take up a few of the next 60 days. Imagine starting now and entering the New Year already feeling stronger, healthier, and more consistent. Here are four ways to make that happen:

1. Find Small Moments for Fitness (Even If You’re Busy)

Between holiday prep, shopping, and family time, finding the time can seem impossible. But remember, you don’t need an hour for it to count. Carve out 15-20 minutes for a quick walk, bodyweight exercises, or a few stretches. Short, consistent workouts add up and keep your body moving. Even a little bit of activity each day is a win.

2. Balance the Treats with Consistent Action

The holidays come with extra treats, and that’s okay. You don’t need to avoid them entirely—just aim for balance. Enjoy your favorite foods, but let them be part of your overall healthy habits, not a reason to throw in the towel. Consistency is about what you do most of the time, not just during those holiday meals. One indulgence doesn’t define your journey—but building the habit of getting back to your routines afterward does.

3. Talk About Your Goals with Family and Friends

Sometimes our routines fall apart because we don’t communicate. Let your family and friends know that fitness is a priority for you. They don’t need to join in, but it helps to have their understanding. Whether it’s taking 20 minutes for a workout or stepping away for a short walk, letting others know your goals makes it easier to stick to them without feeling pulled in multiple directions.

4. Keep It Simple to Maintain Routine

With travel and gatherings, routines can easily get disrupted. Simplify your approach: pick one habit that you can do consistently, even when things get busy. Maybe it’s a 10-minute stretch each morning or a quick bodyweight circuit before bed. These small actions help you maintain structure and remind you of your commitment to yourself.

The holidays are just a few days out of many—but your health and well-being last far beyond them. Each small step is a vote for the type of person you wish to become. Start now, and let the consistency carry you into a new year feeling your best.
