Linda Wright’s Story

Recently, I was spending time with my 5 year old grandson and we were talking about exercising and being healthy. He asked me if I ever exercised. When I told him that I go to the gym and run, do pushups, sit ups etc., he said “Nana, you can still do all those things?” I was so happy to be able to tell him that I do.

Prior to January 2016, I had exercised sporadically, at best, for many years. My focus was always on raising my children and working (sometimes two jobs), which left little time for me. My weight had fluctuated up and down 15-20 pounds for years and attempts to get a handle on my poor eating habits seemed futile. I was stressed and tired.

Funny thing happens when your 3rd and youngest child leaves for college. You suddenly have an abundance of time to focus inward. In the summer of 2015, after finishing my second round of physical therapy for an arthritic and damaged shoulder, I decided it was time to do something to improve my health and strength. Thankfully, my dear friends and employers announced to me in December that they had signed us up for Boot Camp at CrossFit PTC.

Intimidated is an understatement, I was so scared to take that first step! I remember feeling so out of shape and sore during the first week of camp. My shoulder injury made me nervous but the coaches were always helpful with alternative movements. I wondered if I would be able to complete some of the workouts, but the coaches were so encouraging as were all of the other campers. At some point, you begin to realize you’re all there for the same purpose and the intimidation is gone. I began to look forward to the 6 am workouts. After completing two 6-week boot camps, I officially joined the CrossFit PTC family.

Fast forward 2 years, I am in better shape than I have been in since my early thirties. I have made countless friends with whom I’ve shared many laughs and much sweat and I’ve enjoyed getting to know all of the amazing coaches! There are many milestones I would still like to reach but I know I’ve come so far. My shoulder is much stronger than it was when I started and my overall strength and endurance have improved. My promise to myself is to continue to strive for better health and strength and I can’t think of better people or a better place to do that than with CrossFit PTC.
